A continual profession of Faith:
the "Miracolous Medal"

Florio Quercia s.j.

The "Miracolous Medal" express on symbolic language - that’s in the language more intuitive and universal - all the essential contents of the catholic Faith.

Having made to coin from Madonna by her appearance to Saint Catherine Labouré (November 27, 1830 - Paris), blessed and recomended from the Church, the medal has been defined "Miraculous Medal" because of many graces received from those that have weared it with faith.

One face of the medal represent the objective content of the catholic Faith: the divin Redemption is realized by Jesus and Mary, for the comunion of all human beings with God. The other side of the medal present the subjective content of the catholic Faith: the acceptance of Redenption, which is possible to everybody who he has a pure heart and to who prays.

A message that indicate the intimate union between Jesus and Mary
in the work of Redemption

The objective data of the catholic Faith is symbolized in this way:

1. The twelve stars - Symbol of the complete and perfect comunity (12 signs of the Zodiac, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 apostles), they said "the new Jerusalem that comes from heaven, from God, shine of the glory of God" (Rev 21), with 12 doors, on which are 12 angels and written the name of the twelve tribes of Israel. The walls are placed on 12 basaments in which are the names of the 12 Apostles of the Lamb. Universal city of all humans that accepts the Redemption: Angels, men, extraterrests...

2. The Cross - Indicate Jesus Christ and all his life and mission, that culmine on the Cross, has in the Cross his eternal glory.

3. The letter M - Indicate Mary and all his life and mission: Mother of Christ and his collaborator in the work of Redemption.

4. The plot M-Cross - Indicate the intimate union between Jesus and Mary in the work of Redemption to realize this divin comunion of all with the Divinity, in God.

5. The two hearts - Indicate the real nature and the profund value of Jesus and Mary and of their profound union: is their aware free love for God, for men and between themselves.
Heart of Jesus crown with thorns: not appreciated, rifused, betrayed in this way of his love and Redemption.
Heart of Mary amazed from sword: sorrowful to death for the refuse that men did to God, the kill of the Son.

This their unique love, is expressed and made perfect in sorrow, it is the power of Redemption of God for the world. (Hebrews 5, 9)

The subjective data of the catholic Faith is symbolized in this way:

1. Immaculate Mary - A human person completely constructed innocent from sin, and only for that she is able to transmit others - to Jesus - a integre human nature for a mission of redemption.

2. Mary intercedes - The Bible is full of prayers of intercession which are exhausted: Abraham, Moses, Daniel, Esther, Judith, Baruch, Psalms... Mary, Jesus himself. (Jn 2, 4; Jn 11, 41; Heb 5, 1-4)

3. The world - Indicate all humanity and the whole history, that is divided into real wisdom: humility, purity, mildness of heart, like Mary); false wisdom (preide, falsity, violence, like the serpent).

4. The squeezed serpent - Indicate Satan and his false wisdom, demoniac, opposed to the true wisdom that comes from God. As serpent is poisonous, seduce, tritor, snace, insinuate, not able to move itself in direct line: it is in this way that the false wisdom originated by him is incapable of right, or pure heart, of true life. But with Immaculate Mary, Mother of Christ, it is squeezed by God.

5. The written and the two beams - Act of faith in the effectual intercession of prayer of one who has a pure heart, Mary, and of those who desire to be like Mary.
The two beams: The given predisposed and preparated for us from God: they are given to one that pray (white beams or rays), but they cannot be given to who do not pray (black rays).

Use it with convinction, repeting sincerely every morning the invocation written in the medal: "O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recalls onto You", equal in practice to a constant and personal act of Faith and also to a constant profession of faith.
